Title: Trump Ahead of Biden in 2024 Election Rematch, CNN Poll Finds
Former President Donald Trump is currently leading President Joe Biden in a hypothetical rematch for the 2024 election, according to a recent CNN poll conducted by SSRS. The survey reveals that Trump enjoys a four-percentage-point advantage among registered voters, with 49% supporting him compared to 45% for Biden.
Biden’s chances of reelection are potentially in jeopardy due to negative approval ratings, a perception of a struggling nation, diminished support from key voter groups, and doubts about his capabilities as a leader. Both Trump and Biden face limited room for growth, as a majority of voters claim there is no chance they would vote for either candidate.
In comparison to the 2020 election, Biden’s support has weakened among various key groups that propelled him to victory, such as voters below 35 years old and political independents. Conversely, Trump holds an advantage over Biden among Black voters by 23 percentage points and among Latino voters by 4 points, although Biden commands a significant lead among women of color.
Biden’s approval rating currently stands at 39%, lower than previous presidents at this stage in their reelection bids. This figure is parallel to Trump’s approval rating at the same point in his presidency back in 2019. Additionally, a majority of Americans believe that the country is headed in the wrong direction, with 72% expressing this sentiment, a perception that has remained consistent throughout Biden’s time in office.
Voters who disapprove of Biden’s performance and perceive a negative trajectory for the nation overwhelmingly favor Trump as a potential alternative. In fact, Biden trails former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley in a hypothetical matchup, with 49% of registered voters backing Haley and 43% supporting Biden.
Heading into the 2024 election, the economy remains a prominent issue for voters, with 66% stating its extreme importance to their vote. Other significant factors include election integrity and voting rights, gun policy, crime, and immigration. However, there are noticeable discrepancies between the priorities of Democratic and Republican voters. Republicans prioritize the economy, immigration, crime, and foreign policy, while Democrats emphasize abortion, climate change, and gun policy.
Both Biden and Trump possess low favorability ratings, with more voters viewing them unfavorably rather than favorably. Notably, Republican-aligned voters exhibit higher motivation to vote and stronger negative feelings about Biden’s job performance compared to their Democratic-aligned counterparts. Moreover, satisfaction levels differ among political affiliations, with Republicans registering higher satisfaction levels, while Democrats and independents express greater dissatisfaction.
The poll, conducted from October 27 to November 2, included a national sample of 1,514 adults, yielding a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points. These findings provide crucial insights into the current political landscape as the nation looks ahead to the 2024 presidential election.
