Two Ukrainian Security Officials Detained in Alleged Russian Assassination Plot Against President Zelenskiy
In a shocking turn of events, two Ukrainian security officials have been detained over an alleged Russian assassination plot against President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has exposed a network run by Russia’s FSB that was targeting not only President Zelenskiy but also other high-ranking officials, including the military intelligence chief and the head of the SBU.
The plans uncovered by the SBU included capturing and killing President Zelenskiy, launching a missile strike on officials, using kamikaze drones, and destroying evidence with another missile strike. Three FSB intelligence officers have been named by the SBU in connection with the plot.
The SBU also recovered drones, warheads, and mines from the arrested Ukrainian accomplices who are now facing charges of treason and terrorism. Ukrainian prosecutors are currently examining debris from North Korean missiles that were allegedly launched by Russia.
The use of North Korean missiles by Russia not only poses a threat to Ukraine but also threatens the international consensus on preventing North Korea’s nuclear program. Russia has been accused of violating UN sanctions by shipping refined petroleum to North Korea, leading the US to plan new sanctions in response to Russia’s actions.
In a show of solidarity, Romania’s president has expressed openness to discussing sending the Patriot system to Ukraine. US President Joe Biden recently met with Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis at the White House to discuss the escalating situation in Ukraine and the actions of Russia. This latest development has raised concerns about the ongoing conflict in the region and the implications for international security.
