Los Angeles County Faces Rising COVID-19 Infections and Outbreaks
Los Angeles County is experiencing a concerning increase in COVID-19 infections, signaling a potential setback in the ongoing battle against the pandemic. In response to these growing concerns, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) guidelines have been instituted. These guidelines require employers to establish protocols for seeking information from employees and maintaining confidential records of all COVID-19 cases. Infected individuals are mandated to isolate for at least five days if their symptoms are mild or improving. Moreover, the employer has the responsibility to notify close contacts of infected patients, and exposed workers must wear masks for 10 days around others.
Another area experiencing a worrying increase is the education sector, with the county reporting a 43% surge in school outbreaks. In the past week alone, 33 new outbreaks have been identified, highlighting the need for swift action to protect students, teachers, and staff members.
Despite the concerning rise in infections, Los Angeles County has managed to keep the number of deaths relatively stable. The average daily cases in the county stand at 569, with an average of 559 COVID-positive patients being hospitalized daily. Surprisingly, the number of daily deaths remains low, with just about one death reported on average each day. Experts attribute this phenomenon to the impressive vaccination rates among the population and the availability of effective treatments that help prevent severe illness.
